28. Certificate

Certificates are another tool of mainstream education that we can appropriate – like gold stars – as self rewards.

The last time I made one was when I finished making the Colour at Play course.

It can be a sad, weird feeling to be self-employed and hit a massive milestone… and there’s just silence in the office and nobody says GOOD JOB!

In the days following completion months of intense, full-time work, feeling really flat, I had the mischievous idea to paint myself a beautiful certificate. It sits on the wall in my office as a reminder that I am good, my work is good, and I *can* finish things.

Today I made a new certificate to celebrate the work I’ve put into #KNITSONIKbacktoschool. It says “Certificate of Completion for work on KNITSONIK Back to School” and features many rubber stamps, extravagant use of gold paint and stars and all my favourite watercolour paints.

It represents the best things I’ve learnt and discovered through this journey, with you, through my own learning goals and this online conversation around learning, education and making. Thank you so much for joining in, following along, commenting and being part of it. I hope you have found something useful or inspiring here.

What will your certificate for YOU say? Be generous and encouraging.
