27. Learning Outcomes

When I’m working on an online course for The KNITSONIK School, I build the curriculum with a view to the Learning Outcomes – i.e. what new skills, knowledge and experiences will you have by the end of the learning programme. I’m always thinking not just about sharing knowledge, but the whole experience of learning.

I like thinking about Learning Outcomes because they encompass more than knowledge transference, and recognise the value of activities and experiences to our growth and learning. I have represented this idea of VALUE with semi-precious gemstones in my image for today.

I learn as much through doing (if not more) as through reading and listening. I feel that “Learning Outcomes” celebrates and acknowledges that.

When it comes to running the #KNITSONIKbacktoschool challenge, some of my learning outcomes include:

New skills around planning blog and social media content.
Rediscovering how helpful I find having prompts to write and create images.
Developing new creative practices around making images with my hands (and stamps).
Joy in the discipline of (mostly) sticking to the 2000 character limit allowed by an instagram post.
Building work systems that enable me to put content in multiple places.
New skills around managing time on my phone and workday distractions.
Learning (again) how easy it is for me to give myself too much to do and get overwhelmed.
New skills around adapting tasks to suit my brain and the ways in which it works.

Thinking in terms of learning experiences you’ve had, new skills you’ve developed AND new ideas or concepts you’ve adopted, how would you describe your Learning Outcomes throughout the course of this challenge? And if you could pick an image to represent how you value Learning Outcomes, what would it be?

  1. I would pick an image of FRUITCAKE to symbolize the learning outcomes. In a slice of good fruitcake you can see many different fruits, each one a valuable learning outcome in its own right, but the full value is released when they blend together in a beautiful mouthful.
    Yummy xxx
