Today’s colour is Foxglove.
I initially think of this shade as being a kind of hot pink, Yet as I find hot pink things to check it against, it reveals itself to be much more purple than I imagined. Only the tiniest (purpliest) bit of this rose, that you can’t really see, matches at all with this luminous and beguiling colour.
Foxglove loves the purply centres of fuchsia flowers, but as I hold my ball up to explore the relationship between the two, I see it has flecks of reddish pink as well, that speak to the outer parts of the fuchsia flowers.
What a lovely surprise I find this purple aspect of the colour.
There’s Foxglove joy in my makeup drawer, and it’s almost the same colour as a favourite pair of tights.
Further satisfying matches – and a sense of the “is it pink? is it purple? does it even matter?” conundrum – can be found in a beautiful piece of local street art produced by artist Abraham O (@abraham.o1 on social media) and supported by W.ave Arts, Bexhill.
The same hue that gives Foxglove its luminous power transforms Terminus Road Bus Stop in Bexhill into a magical cavern of colour!
A brushpen, swirled on a piece of tissue paper, is quite close to the colour…
But wait, don’t forget the neps and flecks! Represented with a second pen. Adding layers of bright mystery to the colour of this yarn.
Shininess can throw off our colour sense, I find; different surface textures confound. But still, I think the BIG HUGS on this card are also a bit Foxglove.
My enduring memory of unwrapping Foxglove today will be one of learning to revel in the margin between pink and purple – especially, ESPECIALLY where flowers are concerned.

When I opened this glorious color this morning I went in search of something that was close in color. Everything was either too purple or too pink til I looked up at my Christmas Cactus and African Violet and there was the color – not once but twice!
Isn’t it amazing how many places you can find colours you weren’t expecting/didn’t realise were there?

I forgot to open my calendar yesterday so had the joy of two openings today. I haven’t used this yarn before and was really wowed by the colour and feel. Really looking forward to the rest. What a treat in the lead up to the end of the year.
I am loving these posts and am getting excited to find these colors in my daily life as well. Living in the North Eastern part of the US can be really gloomy this time of year, so finding the first two colors of the calendar out in nature may be tricky. But I am totally up for the challenge. And thank you for inspiring this creativity!
So happy to be sharing the joy of colours with so many Colour Compass buddies :) it’s quite grey here as well, this time of year – with the odd glorious day of sunshine. When it’s been really rotten here, I’ve taken great pleasure in going through old photos from holidays and trips away, and looking for the colours there as well.
