8. School bag / pencil case

I no longer have a school bag but I do have a sensory self-care bag. With eye wipes + spectacle cloths; a little pouch filled with clean hankies + essential oils; lip balm; moisturiser, nail clippers and nail file; my MAIN pencil case, my bullet journal and sometimes a sweary colouring-in book for stressful situations. I also have loops earplugs, flares + noise-cancelling headphones + one of my treasured knitted peaches to hold. It all lives in a nappy-changing bag that had a frame (now destroyed) + nice padded straps (also destroyed). Nappy changing bags have many internal pockets, enabling sore hands to easily grab required items, minimising painful rummaging. Like a schoolbag, it has everything I need to BE PREPARED for everyday life – which is easier to learn from if not struggling with smudged glasses, runny nose, too many loud noises + anxiety. Side pockets provide a place for my cherished life accomplice Monkl + a bottle of water. This bag is sadly so dead now – if anyone could recommend a replacement with side pockets, internal pockets, well-padded straps and a frame, I would be so, so grateful; I’m going to try and repair this but it might be beyond my skills.

Pencil cases: the MAIN one was a treasured gift from Sam in a bullet journaling supplies swap that I set up in 2020.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH. It has room for ALL MY EVERYDAY STATIONERY, which looks like this:

Special mentions in this post go to the tin pencil case I had in the 1990s at school.

It was from The Body Shop; had PORTISHEAD (my fave band then) written on it in Tippex (correction fluid); and many other illustrations and words etched into its surface with my compass point during boring lessons. It now houses my sealing wax and seals collection.

I won this one in a gift swap in Amsterdam. I love it so with its beautiful depictions of Amsterdam buildings and it lives at home so I won’t lose the special pins attached.

Lastly, I love this little spotty red pencil case but, alas, it is far too small to suit my maximalist ways. I only use it when I am faced with gruelling weight restrictions on baggage and am forced to curb my wish for capacious portable storage. The lovely red spotty design does help emotionally in this event.

Thanks so much for thinking of this! I have ordered one from Nordace that seems to fit the bill for me re: back frame, padded straps and internal pockets.
Tom Bihn makes a “Makers Bag” bag that might just fill the bill.
thank you for this suggestion!
