Knit Stars Flash Sale

This week there’s a flash sale on over at Knit Stars. This means you can buy and own any past season at a reduced price.

Masterclass Events S6 - Knit Stars, Live Colourfully

When you buy a Knit Stars Season, you own it for life. You can log in whenever you like, watch it as many times as you need, and download the content to bring with you wherever you are going. The Flash Sale is on Seasons rather than on individual classes. For any season you buy, you’re getting at least ten beautifully filmed and enabling classes from luminaries across the Fibre Industry.

In 2021 for Season Six: Live Colorfully, I produced a Masterclass called Think Like An Artist, which walks you through the process of designing stranded colourwork based on an inspiration source. The vehicle for the class is a special cowl that I designed. It’s in twelve sections, each of which speaks to the work of a particular woman artist in stranded colourwork. Here’s a short video explaining the class and the cowl and giving you a glimpse into what it’s like and why I made it.

I’ve had quite a few requests to put Think Like An Artist out as a standalone pattern. While I appreciate the enthusiasm, this is not something I plan to do. This project is so much more than a knitting pattern and the whole point of my handout and design are that they exist together with the filmed classes to empower you to design your own celebratory stranded colourwork. If you’ve read my Sourcebook or Playbook, this class contains a lot of the same ideas, but the information is presented in a very structured way and with helpful filmed examples of each stage of the process. With the Masterclass, you get not just the cowl pattern, but an additional wealth of tips and tricks showing you how to change each element of the design: the palette, the motifs, the shading sequences.

I’ve had amazing feedback on this class and the joy seems to lie in actually doing the class; watching the filmed sections; joining me in my studio in Reading; and going through each element of the pattern together. It’s as if we were sat down side by side and knitting the cowl as friends. I love that this is what Knit Stars offer, and have really enjoyed having the same experience with other Knit Stars instructors, while watching their amazing classes for myself.

When you buy Knit Stars Season 6 you get access to Think Like An Artist by me, but you also get access to ten other Masterclasses. If you enjoy playing with colour and learning new techniques, this Season offers a wealth of projects and creative contexts for different forms of colour play, including:

  • Dana Williams-Johnson: Fearless Sweaters (+ dog sweaters!)
  •
Casapinka: Stranded Knitting and Simple colorwork

  • Ambah O’Brien: Explore Shawl Shapes

  • Jeanette Sloan: Beaded Colorwork

  • Vincent Williams: Cables: Level Up Your Skills (with Cameo from Adella Colvin)
  •
Jennifer Berg: Navajo-Inspired Colorwork
  •
Nina Machlin-Dayton: One Cowl, 16 Decorative Techniques!

  • Kaffe Fassett / Brandon Mably: create your own version of the Gridlock Wrap
  •
Louis Boria: Your Perfect Hat
  •
Jacqui Fink: Color + Emotional Health

This week the Knit Stars Season Sale has really got me thinking about how to make the most of our online learning experiences and I’m working on some resources for here (and for instagram, which I have recently rejoined as @knitsonik) about how, when we buy something like a Knit Stars Season, we can maximise the value of our investment.

But today, I just want to focus on the Knit Stars Sale and how you can buy Season Six – or any past season with classes that interest you – at reduced rates, for one week only.

I’m really proud of my Masterclass and it continues to be an important economic pillar of my business. When you buy a Knit Stars Season through my affiliate link, I receive a commission from the sale. I’m truly grateful for the supportive community Shelley has created, and for how the Knit Stars business model continually compensates the makers and artists whose love and talent nourish every season of Masterclasses.

Thank you Shelley and Knit Stars, and thank YOU for your support and interest.
Yours in glorious online learning and in Thinking Like An Artist.
